Books

I tend to read a lot of non-fiction. I enjoy technical books as well as philosophical, health and self-help genres. Technology changes so rapidly that I don't see a point in listing those titles here. Instead, I've limited myself to things that I believe will have a longer shelf life.

The Road Less Traveled, Scott Peck

The Road Less Traveled book cover Probably one of the most influential books of my life. The first chapter is worth a read unto itself and quickly lays out the books' primary thesis that life is difficult, and it is in the process of meeting and solving problems that life has meaning.

I hated the sequel, Further Along the Road Less Traveled, a mélange of religious advocacy and apologetics. This book however is mostly grounded in the secular and psychological challenges people face in accepting the truth about life being difficult, the discipline we require to navigate the problems and challenges that arise, and our williness to update our map.

The Complete Guide to Fasting, Jason Fung, MD

The Complete Guide to Fasting book coverI found this book while training for my first triathalon. I had been lifting weights, cycling, running and swimming but was still unable to get my weight below a certain threshold. This book changed my relationship with food and started me on a path to understanding how my metabolism works. I now regularly fast for my health (read: not weight), but when I am cutting weight for an event, there is nothing that moves the needle faster for me than fasting.
